Here is a basic overview of your Contact Stage. This page will show you the aircraft blocks and simulator blocks/events and what the main purpose is for each event. Each event page link (no links for aircraft flights) will have more specific details through the electronic briefing guide located on the page. If the electronic briefing guide has a video embedded in it, it will be posted to the page due to the fact that embedded videos will not work in the PDF files given. Also on each page will be applicable videos or briefings to help you with training on the specific event.

Checklist & Ground EPs
The first block of training. These three events focus on running all the checklist, from
getting in the seat to shutdown. You will normally accomplish these in a UTD and will be in full flight gear. Some very basic ground EPs are accomplished in this block.
|
In-flight EPs
In this block you will continue to complete all the checklist but you will not be required
to wear flight gear (just gloves). Normally these events will be accomplished in a UTD. The hop will also cover numerous EPs. The focus is not on flying while accomplishing EPs but rather the procedural aspect along with systems knowledge and application.
|
Basic Area Maneuvers & Patterns
This block will be accomplished in an OFT as you will be flying during the events. You will
use the Simulator Abbreviated Checklist vice running the entire Quadfold. It is an introduction to Contact maneuvers and the pattern prior to heading to the flight line.

Familiarization
The C41XX block has 4 aircraft events. This blocks events are normally all accomplished with your on-wing. These flights are designed to take your preliminary training in the simulator and apply it to the aircraft. The flights are designed to allow for aero-medical adaptation into flying.
This block will begin with "Fam 0" which is where your on-wing will orient you to all the facets prior to your flights . These items include: Briefing expectations & requirements, line shack orientation, ALSS & gear, aircraft issue, Aircraft Discrepancy Book (ADB), flight line orientation, and aircraft NATOPS walk-around inspection. This tour is going to provide you with a large amount of information on flight line operations. |
Pattern & Emergency Landing

C3201
C3202 C3203 |
Introduces the Precautionary Emergency Landing (PEL), and PEL in the
pattern (PEL/P), as well as normal pattern operations This event adds in Power Loss scenarios Continued PEL, Power Loss, and PPEL/P, and patterns with an intro to crosswinds |
Off-Wing Flights The C42XX block has 4 aircraft events. One of the events in this block will be accomplished with your on-wing while three will be accomplished with off-wing instructors. Common practice is to have the first event in the block be with your on-wing.
Off-wing flight expose you to different techniques and instruction from squadron instructors other than your on-wing. This block goes into applying the emergency procedures and patterns you learned in the previous simulator block: PELs, Forced Landings, ELPs, & PPEL/P. Heavy emphasis will be placed on pattern operations and landings. |
Pre-Checkride Flights The C43XX block has 4 aircraft events. Normally, all of these flights will be accomplished with your on-wing. Briefings will hit hard on systems, emergency, and general knowledge. Expect to cover an aircraft system each flight to include drawing it out at the brief and explaining it thoroughly to your instructor. On C4304, you are required to fill out an Ops Limits/Boldface sheet.
